The Shore

I liked the shore. Being that Ive visited the area where the Shore takes place I felt it was very accurate. I felt as though I was visiting my family again. I picked this book because I can easily rel;ate to it because I am from the area. I was expected a light read that probably didn't have much depth but instead I got a full story with an array of emotions. I really appreciated the struggles and realistic setting. There are very tough parts of the book that are hard to read. Overall I enjoyed this book.

Going into this book I didn't have high expectations. I am personally not a fan of the books in the Oprah book club but this book was just great.This is not an easy book to read. It includes things like  rape, pedophilia, and graphic sexual scenes. The story is very moving. I feel the pain in the book. Also I enjoyed the writing style. I personally could relate to the book because I am also African American. The story seems realistic but there re somethings that I don't think could happen in real life. The sad and graphic scenes seemed repetitive but I was able to get through it.
